How to choose
The things that actually matter when you're choosing — plain language, no spec-sheet jargon.
Rumbly beats buzzy — this is the whole game. Cheap bullets buzz at the surface of the skin, and surface buzz turns numbing fast. Better motors vibrate at a lower frequency that travels deeper into the body — people describe it as pressure you feel in the body rather than tingling on it. The difference is obvious within a minute of use, and it's the main thing you're paying for in a good bullet. Our Je Joue Rechargeable Bullet is built around exactly this kind of deep, rumbly motor.
Rechargeable or battery-powered. Rechargeable bullets cost more upfront but run stronger and quieter, hold consistent power as the charge drains, and USB charging beats hunting for watch batteries. Battery models still earn a place as an inexpensive travel spare — just know the power fades as the battery does.
Size and reach. A standard bullet is seven to nine centimetres — small enough to hold between two bodies during sex without getting in the way, which is where bullets quietly outperform bigger toys. Slightly larger mini vibes trade a little of that discretion for an easier grip and a bigger battery. If your hands cramp easily or you want more to hold onto, size up.
How to actually use one. Start on the lowest setting — you can always go up, but starting high is the most common way to have a bad first experience. Try the side of the tip rather than the point; broad contact is gentler than pinpoint. Over underwear or through a layer of fabric is a real technique, not a compromise — many people prefer the softened sensation. A single drop of water-based lubricant on the tip changes the feel entirely. And move it around: the "right spot" on the first try is luck, not instructions.
What "powerful" means in a toy this small. Physics is honest: a motor the size of a AAA battery cannot match a motor the size of a fist. A good bullet delivers focused, pinpoint intensity, and that's its job. If what you want is broad, deep, whole-area power, that's a wand vibrator — different tool, different job. Plenty of people own both and use them for different moods.
Noise and privacy. Bullets are the quietest class of vibrator, full stop. The motor is tiny and fully enclosed, and pressing the toy against the body muffles it further. Behind a closed door with normal ambient noise, a good bullet is effectively private. Roommates and thin walls are rarely a problem.
Water use. Only submerge a bullet that's rated fully waterproof — the Je Joue is. Twist-cap battery bullets are usually splash-resistant at best, and bath water finds every seam. If the product page doesn't state a waterproof rating, assume it isn't.
Materials and cleaning. Look for a body-safe silicone or ABS plastic body — both are non-porous, which means they don't absorb fluids and clean up properly. Wash with warm water and mild unscented soap before and after use, let it dry completely, and store it in a pouch away from other silicone toys. Use water-based lubricant only: silicone lube bonds to silicone toys and permanently damages the surface.
Three mistakes to skip. Don't start at maximum — sensitivity climbs during arousal, so the setting that felt like nothing at the start feels different ten minutes in. Don't use a bullet anally — bullets have no flared base, and anything used anally needs one; that's what anal toys are shaped for. And don't put it away wet — moisture in a pouch is how a good toy grows a short life.
