How to choose
The things that actually matter when you're choosing — plain language, no spec-sheet jargon.
What silicone lube is actually best at. Longevity. A few drops of silicone lubricant outlast an entire reapplication cycle of water-based — it doesn't absorb into skin and it doesn't dry out. That makes it the choice for longer sessions, for skin-on-skin, for massage, and for anywhere water-based gives up early. It's also the only lube that keeps working underwater, which is why it owns the shower.
The one rule that matters: never on silicone toys. Silicone lubricant bonds with silicone toy surfaces and degrades them permanently — the surface turns tacky and the toy is done. Since most quality toys are silicone, this is the rule to memorize. Use water-based lube with silicone toys, and save your silicone lube for skin. If you're not sure what a toy is made of, treat it as silicone and use water-based — the safe guess costs nothing.
Is it safe with condoms? Silicone lubricant is compatible with latex and polyurethane condoms — unlike oils, which weaken latex. As always: the condom box and the lube label both state compatibility, and checking takes ten seconds. Uberlube and Pjur both print it plainly.
Which bottle — the three in this collection. Uberlube is the minimalist: a short ingredient list, a light glass-bottle formula that doubles as a massage and skin product, and a refillable metal traveler case for the bag. Pjur Original is the German workhorse — one of the best-known silicone formulas in the world, dense and long-lasting. Pjur Woman is the same idea tuned lighter, formulated for sensitive skin with no preservatives added. There's no wrong answer here; it's texture preference.
How to get it off afterwards. Skin: warm water and ordinary soap, done. Sheets and fabric: treat it like a light oil stain — a squirt of dish soap rubbed into the spot before a normal wash takes it out; don't just throw it in the machine untreated. Hard surfaces can stay slippery, so wipe spills promptly. This is the honest trade-off for the longevity: what doesn't absorb during also doesn't vanish after.
A few drops means a few drops. Silicone lube is far more concentrated than water-based. Start with less than you think — two or three drops — and add only if needed. A bottle lasts months of regular use, which quietly changes the value math against cheaper water-based bottles you replace constantly.
If you have sensitive skin. Pure silicone formulas contain no water, so they carry no preservatives the way water-based formulas must — many people with easily irritated skin prefer them for exactly that reason. Everyone's skin is its own jurisdiction though: if any product irritates you, stop using it, and if irritation persists, that's a question for a provider, not a lube aisle.
Silicone or water-based — the thirty-second answer. Water-based: works with every toy, easy cleanup, needs reapplying. Silicone: lasts far longer, works underwater, never touches silicone toys, needs soap to remove. Most people eventually own both and use them for different jobs. The full comparison is in our guide.
