Body-safe by design — not by claim.

The EGG has a rigid polypropylene outer casing and a soft, highly stretchable thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) sleeve, and it comes with a 5 ml sachet of Tenga's own water-based EGG Lotion. It is latex-free and phthalate-free. Tenga design the EGG for one session only, so it's meant to be sealed back into its casing and discarded after use rather than washed and kept.

How to use, clean, and store

The first-5-minutes card in your box has the short version. This is the extended guide.

  1. Peel off the outer wrapper and twist open the plastic egg shell.
  2. Take out the sleeve and the sachet of EGG Lotion packed inside it.
  3. Tear the sachet and squeeze the lotion into the opening of the sleeve, then spread a little around the entry.
  4. Gently stretch the opening with your fingers and slide the sleeve on — it stretches far further than it looks, so take it slowly rather than forcing it.
  5. Grip from the base and stroke. Vary your grip pressure to change how strongly the bumps and ribs register.
  6. When you're finished, slide the sleeve off and roll it back into the plastic shell.
  1. There is no cleaning step. Tenga design the EGG for a single session and ask that it be discarded afterwards rather than washed and kept.
  2. Roll the used sleeve back into its plastic shell and close it, then put the sealed shell in your household waste — the polypropylene shell and TPE sleeve should be separated according to your local recycling rules.
  3. Wash your hands with soap and water after handling.
  1. Store unopened eggs in their sealed packaging until you plan to use one.
  2. Keep them at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, humidity and heat.
  3. Keep the lotion sachet sealed inside the shell so it doesn't dry out.
  4. Don't store an egg after use — it's designed to be discarded once opened and used.

The Bouncy Textured Male Masturbator Egg with Ribs – Tenga story

Made to be used once, and Tenga says so plainly.

Tenga puts lifetime sales of the EGG at more than 37.5 million since the line launched in November 2008. That is the company's own count rather than an audited market figure, and it is worth reading as a manufacturer being proud of itself. What it does tell you is that a ten-dollar sleeve is not a novelty item here — it is one of the most-produced products in the entire category, which is why the moulding is better than the price suggests.

Tenga's own wording: designed solely for one-time use, and discarded afterwards.

Koichi Matsumoto founded Tenga in March 2005 after looking at how these products were sold. Even inside adult shops, he wrote, they were handled furtively, and he could not square that with the idea that sex is fundamental to being human. The packaging follows directly from that. This arrives looking like a designed object in a plastic shell rather than a picture of a body part, which is the whole reason it can sit in a drawer without needing an explanation.

Now the material, and this is the part worth knowing before you buy. Tenga describes the sleeve as a super-stretchable elastomer, and elastomer is not silicone. It is softer and stretchier, which is what gives it its range, but it is also more porous — and a porous surface cannot be fully sterilised, only wiped. Tenga publishes no phthalate-free statement for the EGG anywhere. What it does state is that it excludes harmful materials such as vinyl chloride from its products and that its lotion ingredients are tested for body safety, and that is the full extent of the claim. This is one of the few things on our shelves carrying no phthalate-free badge, and the single-use design is what makes that acceptable rather than a problem.

Single use is not a suggestion. Tenga's own wording is that the EGG is designed solely for one-time, disposable use and should be discarded after use, and the company is explicit that washing it does not change that answer. If you want something to keep and clean between sessions, Tenga's own reusable ranges are the answer, and we would point you the same way rather than talk you into stretching this one further than its maker intends.

One practical note that applies beyond this product. A sachet of water-based lotion sits inside the case, and water-based is the right default if the rest of your collection is silicone — silicone lubricant is the one that degrades a silicone toy. Tenga demonstrates the sleeve's stretch by pulling one over a 500 millilitre bottle, which is a more useful picture than any measurement. At under ten dollars this is the least expensive thing we sell, and the least committal way to find out whether a textured sleeve does anything for you.

Pleasure With Purpose

Every purchase helps women impacted by sexual exploitation.

Pleasure With Purpose is our promise that pleasure should never come at anyone's expense. Launched in 2026 — our very first year in business — it directs 5% of every purchase to Canadian charities that support women impacted by sexual exploitation. We chose to start on day one, rather than "once we could afford it," because a brand built on consensual pleasure owes something to the women the wider industry has harmed. Every year we'll publish the numbers, the recipients, and the receipts.
