Vaginal dilators

Dilator sets are smooth, graduated inserts used to work toward comfortable penetration gradually, at whatever pace your body sets. You start with the size that goes in without pain, stay there until it is genuinely easy, and only then move up. There is no schedule you are behind on.

They are commonly used alongside pelvic floor physiotherapy, and for vaginismus, menopause, and recovery after treatment. We carry body-safe silicone sets with clear sizing so you can see exactly what each step up involves. These are comfort tools, not medical treatment — a pelvic floor physiotherapist can help you use them well. Ships from Ottawa in plain packaging.

How to choose

The things that actually matter when you're choosing — plain language, no spec-sheet jargon.

There is no schedule you are behind on. Dilators work by repetition at a size that does not hurt, not by pushing through discomfort. The goal at every stage is for the current size to become boring. If that takes weeks, it takes weeks — moving up early is the most reliable way to go backwards.

Pick your starting size honestly. Start with the largest dilator that inserts without pain. People routinely overestimate here and then conclude the process is not working. Smaller is not failure, it is just the actual starting point.

Lubricant, warmth, and time. Use water-based lubricant generously — our sets are silicone, so silicone lubricant would damage them. A warm bath beforehand helps some people. Insert slowly, then simply rest with it in place; the work is in staying relaxed, not in movement.

Breathe out on insertion. Pelvic floor muscles tighten with a held breath and release on a slow exhale. This one detail changes the experience for a lot of people more than any equipment choice does.

Best used with support. Dilators are comfort and training tools rather than a treatment on their own. A pelvic floor physiotherapist can tell you how often, how long, and what else to pair them with — and for vaginismus in particular, that guidance is what makes the difference.

Questions, answered

The questions we get most often — answered straight, with real numbers where they help.

General

What are vaginal dilators used for?

Working gradually toward comfortable penetration. They are commonly used for vaginismus, vaginal dryness and tightness during menopause, recovery after pelvic surgery or radiation, and as part of pelvic floor physiotherapy.

Usage

Which size should I start with?

The largest one that goes in without pain — which is often smaller than people expect, and that is completely fine. Stay at that size until it feels genuinely easy and unremarkable before moving up. Rushing a size is the most common way progress stalls.

Usage

How often should I use them?

Most routines involve short, regular sessions rather than long occasional ones. If a pelvic floor physiotherapist has given you a plan, follow theirs — it will be based on your body rather than a general guideline.

General

Are these a medical device?

They are comfort and training tools. They do not treat an underlying condition on their own, and they work best alongside guidance from a pelvic floor physiotherapist or your healthcare provider.

Usage

What lubricant should I use?

Water-based, generously applied to both the dilator and yourself. Our sets are silicone, so silicone lubricant would damage them. If dryness is part of the problem, a vaginal moisturizer used separately may help too.

Yes. Every order ships Canada-wide in a plain, unbranded box — no logo, no brand name, and no description of the contents anywhere on the outside. Your bank or credit card statement shows the charge as SP RP Chhokra Inc., so "Red Pleasures" never appears there either.
